Digital Personal Travel Assistant

Cisco announced a “personal Travel Assistant Solution” in 2009 with its pilots in Seoul and San Francisco. The solution was designed to use a web based service that would reduce carbon footprint, transit costs and travel time. The assistant would allow “residents to make on-the-go travel decisions based on time, cost and carbon impact.”

“As part of the Connected Urban Development (CUD) program, the PTA pilot is a collaborative effort among the city of Seoul, the city of Amsterdam and the Cisco® Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG), the company's strategic global consulting arm.”

Does anyone know if the anticipated roll out of this solution to other global cities ever occurred?

Second Lotte World Commercial Development

An architectural firm has developed a design for the 2nd Lotte World to include 200,000 Square-Meters of retail, a high end department store, a shopping mall, an entertainment tower and a concert hall.

There are also plans for a new skyscraper at 2nd Lotte World, however, they have run into some difficulties due to a nearby airport. “The Ministry of National Defense and the Air Force said construction of a second Lotte World skyscraper in Seoul's Songpa district would be possible if the direction of a runway on the east side of Seoul Airport is moved by an angle of three degrees.”

Lotte World Premium Tower

The 123-story Lotte World Premium Tower is expected to rise higher than One World Trade Center in New York City.  It is expected to be completed in 2015. The construction started in November 2011, after 13 years of planning and site preparation. It is located near the Han river and will contain 6 floors of retail, 54 floors of offices, 24 floors of residences, 32 floors of hotels, three public access floors and an observation deck.

“The conceptual design calls for a slender cone with convex, gently curved sides. An exterior of pale-colored glass draws inspiration from Korean ceramics and features accents of metal filigree.”

A 39 story shopping mall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul shook violently for 10 minutes on July 5, 2011 causing the entire building to be evacuated for two days. It appears that the vibration was setup by Taebo exercises in a fitness center in the building. The “taebo” is an aerobic sport which is a mixture of taekwondo and boxing.

“When an external vibration hits the resonance frequency of a certain object, the vibration is amplified and causes excess shaking even from slight movement.”
